James Newton Howard, the mastermind behind the scores for Pretty Woman, Sixth Sense, Signs, Blood Diamond and many other fantastic soundtracks, was now rightfully honoured with the Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award at Hollywood in Vienna last week.
It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I am really glad that more and more official videos will be uploaded in the next weeks and months. It was incredibly emotional and I definitely wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes during the beautiful tribute to James Horner, James Newton Howard’s moving acceptance speech and some of the suites that were performed.
James Newton Howard, who recently scored Edward Zwick’s Pawn Sacrifice, was also responsible for the massive hit that was ‘The Hanging Tree’ – performed by Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. You can now finally enjoy its great World Premiere in the embedded video below. Masterly performed by Bosnian singer Edita Malovčić and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony it was conducted by the Boston Pops Orchestra’s Keith Lockhart.
Other highlights were definitely Blood Diamond and Maleficent:
The whole concert will be aired on Austrian TV channel Ö3 tomorrow at 8:15 pm CEST.
Until tomorrow, October 25th, 7:30 pm CEST you can also still listen to the whole concert online on Ö1 Webradio’s archive. As the topic for the whole concert was ‘Tales of Mystery’, the first half consists of a journey through time commemorating some of the greatest moments in film (music) history. The concert itself starts at 3:43 after an introduction in German with a suite of Franz Waxman’s score for Alfred Hitchcock’s Rebecca. In the second part (starting at 55:40) James Newton Howard then was honoured and celebrated with suites from some of his best known works.
Once more official videos are online we will tell you more about the concert in case you missed it and will also embed as many videos as possible.
