Following our July placements recap, let’s have a look at what music was put to good usage in August’s trailers!
‘Arrival’ Trailer Music feat. Aleksandar Dimitrijevic, Ninja Tracks, Johann Johannsson and David James Rosen
One of the clear highlights of August was definitely Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival, starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. In the first International trailer you can hear Aleksandar Dimitrijevic‘s Subnuclear from Immediate Music‘s EXOSPHERE album throughout the second half of the trailer. In the same trailer you can also hear parts of Ninja Tracks‘ The Constant.
In the first US Trailer you can hear parts of Johann Johannsson‘s upcoming score for the film from 0:37 till 1:18. Apart from that you can hear music by David James Rosen and seemingly Confidential Music.
‘Moonlight’ Trailer Music feat. Nicholas Britell
In the trailer for the highly anticipated drama Moonlight by Barry Jenkins, you can hear The Middle of the World from Nicholas Britell‘s wonderful film score (winner at this year’s Hollywood Music in Media Awards in the ‘Original Score -Dramatic Feature’ section). ‘Rogue One’ Trailer Music feat. The Void
With the announced extensive recuts as well as the replacement of composer Alexandre Desplat by Michael Giacchino, we really hope Rogue One won’t end up being a second Suicide Squad in December. What we have seen so far looks still very promising though. You can hear Oumi Kapila a.k.a. The Void ‘s track Wanderer, published by Pusher Music and SILO Music, throughout the first Official International Trailer.
‘Battlefield’ Trailer Music feat. Ninja Tracks/Johnny Cash
The latest installment of EA’s Battlefield series, taking place in WWI, was promoted once again with a hard hitting song remix. Sound design and mix were provided by Source Sound while the remix of Johnny Cash’s God’s Gonna Cut You Down was created by Ninja Tracks.
‘Westworld’ Trailer Music feat. Christopher P. Bragg
Anthony Hopkins returns in HBO’s intriguing Westworld series alongside Evan Rachel Wood and Jimmi Simpson. Ghostwriter Music‘s Christopher P. Bragg composed the custom cue for the entire trailer.
‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ Trailer Music feat. Danny Cocke
By now, CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has won more than 800 awards and celebrated its success with a Game of the Year edition. You can hear Danny Cocke‘s track Defyer from Position Music’s GENERATE, ORGANIZE, DESTROY album throughout the trailer.
‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Trailer Music feat. Jack Sound, James Hook, Ray Common and Teddy Fellows
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildland looks like a lot of fun and you can hear Jack Sound, James Hook, Ray Common and Teddy Fellows’ Fighting Talk throughout the trailer. The track was published on Really Slow Motion‘s album HOTWIRED.
‘A United Kingdom’ Trailer Music feat. Greg Dombrowski and Paul Dinletir
Based on the true story when Prince Seretse Khama of Botswana caused an international stir after marrying a white woman from London in the late 1940s, A United Kingdom promises very powerful performances by Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo. You can hear a cue by Secession Studio‘s Greg Dombrowski in the first half (published by Immediate Music) and Paul Dinletir’s Equinox in the second half of the trailer, which has been published on audiomachine‘s AWAKENINGS album. ‘Mafia III’ Trailer Music feat. Black Strobe
Black Strobe‘s cover of Ellas McDaniel a.k.a. Bo Diddley’s I’m A Man from 1955, fits perfectly into MAFIA III‘s gangster world of New Bordeaux in the 60’s. Sound Design and mix were provided by Source Sound. You can listen to Black Strobe’s version from the album BURN YOUR OWN CHURCH here.
‘Lion’ Trailer Music feat. Phil Lober and Ninja Tracks
Garth Davis’s Lion, starring Dev Patel, Rooney Mara and Nicole Kidman tells the true story of a five-year-old Indian boy who got lost on the streets of Calcutta. Having been adopted by a couple in Australia he sets out to find his lost family 25 years later. The trailer is beautifully accompanied by Phil Lober‘s Rain Boy (published by Really Slow Motion) and Kaveh Cohen and Michael David Nielsen‘s a.k.a. Ninja Tracks‘s Spectrum from the album REVOLUTION VIVID.
‘Allied’ Trailer Music feat. Dan Rosen
Dan Rosen‘s Make No Mistake, published by Score A Score, accompanies the first Teaser Trailer for Robert Zemeckis’ Allied starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard. You can listen to the original track on Dan’s Soundcloud.
‘Manchester by the Sea’ Trailer Music feat. Matthew Perryman Jones
Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea tells the story of uncle (Casey Affleck) who out of a sudden has to take of his teenage nephew after the boy’s father dies. The lovely trailer is underlined by Matthew Perryman Jones‘ Land of the Living from the same-named album which is available via his online store.
‘Metal Gear Survive’ Trailer Music feat. Matthew Perryman Jones
Metal Gear Surive tells a pretty different story and so the Official Gamescom Trailer is accompanied by Chroma feat. Eivør‘s hard hitting cover of Blind Faith’s Can’t find my way home. You can listen to the cover version on Chroma’s official Youtube channel.
‘Narcos Season 2’ Trailer Music feat. Ana Tijoux
After the success of season one, many couldn’t wait for season two of Netflix’s Narcos. Telling the story of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the first two seasons, French-Chilean musician Ana Tijoux’s Vengo from her same-named album accompanies the second trailer for season 2 from 0:36 on until the end. The album is available on iTunes.
‘Complete Unknown’ Trailer Music feat. Mechanitis
Hannes Kretzer and Niklas Paschburg‘s music project Mechanitis‘ sounds can be heard throughout the the first Official Trailer for Complete Unknown, starring Michael Shannon, Rachel Weisz and Kathy Bates. Mechanitis’ atmospherical vibes featuring singer Tanya Batt nicely underline the mysterious mood of Joshua Marston’s upcoming film.
‘Rings’ Trailer Music feat. Cody Still
One of the classics of all horror classics will be in cinema with a new protagonist trying to scare the hell out of you. Underlining the whispered countdown, you can hear Cody Still‘s Deranged from Colossal Trailer Music’s SCHIZO album.
‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ Trailer Music feat. Ellie Goulding and Superhuman
The first Official Trailer to Resident Evil’s final chapter kicks off with Ellie Goulding‘s Intro (Delirium) and then merges into a cover of the same track created by Joe Kearns and Chris Ketley a.k.a. Superhuman.
‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole’ Trailer Music feat. Nick Road
Nick Road‘s The Scrap is featured throughout the whole Gamescom Gameplay Trailer for South Park: The Fractured But Whole. The game looks super fun and you can listen to the full track on Colossal Trailer Music’s album BLITZKRIEG.
‘Titanfall 2’ Trailer Music feat. James Dooley and Danny Cocke
Composers James Dooley and Danny Cocke teamed up for Destoyers in the Sky on Position Music’s VEILED NATION album and it can be heard in the official Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Tech Test Gameplay Trailer.
‘Mechanic: Ressurection’ Trailer Music feat. Ninja Tracks
Mechanic: Ressurection Red Band Trailer 2, starring Jason Statham, was released exclusively on Facebook (maybe to avoid Youtube’s login policy?) and is accompanied by Ninja Tracks‘ track Gun Powder.

‘Priceless’ Trailer Music feat. For King & Country
Formerly known as Joel & Luke, For King & Country is an Australian band founded in 2007. Founding members Joel und Luke Smallbone wrote and performed the theme song of Ben Smallbone’s upcoming drama Priceless, starring Amber Midthunder, David Koechner and Jim Parrack.
