Master of None – Season 2 | Official Trailer [HD] | Netflix

“As you could imagine from the sheer amount of tunes we pack into both Master of None seasons– Alan and Aziz are fanatics and they count on music as a major tool for their storytelling,” said Cowie. “Supervising a show that places such an importance on these choices has been a dream job.  We love being able to use these songs in our show, but we also feel they can all stand up on their own. Please consider this less of a soundtrack and more like a mixtape from music-obsessed people full of songs that we think are wonderful.”

Best known for his role on the award-winning series Parks and Recreation, comedian Aziz Ansari stars, writes, and directs MASTER OF NONE, an Emmy Award-winning Netflix original comedy series loosely based on his own life experiences. Master of None follows the personal and professional lives of Dev, a 30-year-old actor in New York who has trouble deciding what he wants to eat, much less the pathway for the rest of his life. Ambitious, funny, cinematic, and both sweeping in scope and intensely personal, Dev’s story takes him through subjects as diverse as the plight of dating in a digital world, religion, coming out to your family and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner. The show was created by Ansari and Parks and Recreation co-executive producer and writer Alan Yang. The series, from Universal Television, is executive produced by Aziz Ansari, Alan Yang, Michael Schur, Dave Becky, David Miner and Igor Srubshchik.

Season 2 of Master of None launches globally on Netflix on May 12, 2017. Lakeshore Records will release the MASTER OF NONE – A Netflix Original Series Soundtrack exclusively on iTunes on May 12, through all digital providers on May 19, and on CD June 30, 2017.  A double-LP will be released in conjunction with Mondo Records, available for pre-order beginning May 12 and select indie retailers at June 30, 2017.

Music Supervisor Zach Cowie about the track selections for the MASTER OF NONE: Season 2 soundtrack:

  1. Piu’ Di Te – Mina
“Aziz [Ansari] discovered Mina’s music while living in Italy, learning how to make pasta and getting his ideas together for season 2.  She’s our guide thru the whole second season, the first and last singing voice you hear.”
  1. La Dolce Vita – Ryan Paris
  2. Okay Okay – Pino D’Angiò
  3. Bite the Apple – Rainbow Team
“A string of three early 80’s Italian disco classics from episode 2 that we use to illustrate the full color Italian sound to contrast to the 60’s Italian film score we repurpose in the first black & white Italian episode.”
  1. I Must Be in a Good Place Now – Bobby Charles
“This 1972 Bobby Charles tune was something I wanted to use in season 1 and it stuck around in our shared music folder. Alan [Yang] thought to try it for the end of episode 3 and the results were magic.”
  1. I Need Somebody to Love Tonight – Sylvester
“The perfect illustration of Dev’s yearn for connection in the “alone together” digital age.”
  1. Say Hello, Wave Goodbye – Soft Cell
“Aziz thought to use this 1981 Soft Cell song during the long-shot which ends episode 5, another instant ‘we can’t beat this idea!’ combination of sound and vision.”
  1. Umugabo Wukuri – Canco Hamisi
“One of our lead actors (Enock Ntekereze) in episode 6 is from Burundi. Alan thought of the idea to use a tune from there during this montage and found Canco Hamisi on YouTube. Tracking down ownership of the song for licensing was proving to be impossible until our co-supervisor Kerri Drootin worked with Enock and the Burundian government to secure the rights—true story!”
  1. Adventures in Success – Will Powers
“A wild self-help-parody disco track from 1983, which opens episode 7. Will Powers is the stage name of famed photographer Lynn Goldsmith, here she’s being back by the legendary Compass Point Rhythm Section.”
  1. You’re a Song (That I Can’t Sing) – Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
  2. I Can’t Let It Happen to You – The Walker Brothers
“Two hurts-so-good tracks from episode 9 to summarize Dev’s struggle with a relationship he can’t have. The Frankie Valli track is from 1972 and the Walker Brothers tune is from 1967.”
  1. Se Piangi Se Ridi – Mina
“Our guiding voice returns in the 10th episode to close out the season…”
